We are seeking Chaplain candidates to work as needed / as available to assist the Spiritual Care Staff at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, IA. This registry (PRN) position would be scheduled as needed.
Master’s degree in Theology, pastoral studies or related field; CPE (clinical pastoral education). Minimum of 1-year pastoral care experience in health care field, and must be certified as a Chaplain from NACC, APC or NAJC. CPE, 4 units or enrollment in program with completion date of 4 units no later than one year from hire.
We are a Catholic faith based organization and currently have an ecumenical chaplaincy team.
High language, intermediate math, high reasoning ability. Personal computer skills.
Ability to reflect theologically and facilitate that process in others. Self-reflective, well grounded in a relationship with god, self/others. Ability to work with diverse individuals and groups of people. Ability to articulate clearly. Ability to deal with stress and conflict. Ability to convey positive image and build positive relationships with others. Works independently and is a self-starter.
If driving, valid driver’s license and current auto insurance. BLS. Mandatory Reporter. Bloodborne pathogens hazard to eyes, hands, torso and respiratory.
Physical demands are not essential, moderate sitting and hand/wrist repetitions; frequent fine motor skills and either handedness; requires 20/20 near vision.

In conjunction with our team of health care professionals, the Chaplains facilitate spiritual well-being by assisting patients, families, staff and the wider community to cope and identify sources of meaning and hope in their experience of life transitions, inclusive of suffering, loss and grief, by drawing upon their values and beliefs in the context of their life story. Chaplains do this by providing individual, family and staff visitation; spiritual assessment, guidance and direction; advocacy for patient well-being; prayer, worship services, rituals and sacraments, through the facilitation of support groups and family meetings/care conferences; by serving as a liaison to community clergy and resources, facilitates clinical ethical decisions, and actively participating as an integral member of the clinical care team.
